Shatavari gehört zur Familie der Spargelgewächse und gedeiht in vielen tropischen Teilen Indiens und Asiens.
Es ist eine dornige Pflanze mit dünnen Blättern, weißen Blüten, roten Beeren und vor allem einem ausgedehnten Geflecht aus Knollenwurzeln. Dieser Teil der Pflanze wird im Ayurveda als Nahrungsmittel und pflanzliches Heilmittel verwendet.
